On Saturday we had a lazy morning catching up on some jet lag!! After a very very late breakfast (we got up at 12.00) we set off down to the harbour again. This time we went to the Botanic Gardens. In the gardens is government house, over the weekend they do free tours round the house, we were lucky enough to be in the right time and the right place and we got a ticket. The tour takes you round the house which is really interesting, our tour guide was very informative and we both enjoyed this immensely (yes we must be getting old.) After this we wandered round the garden a bit and then went to watch ‘Extreme Sailing’ with really fast catamaran’s in the harbour.
On Sunday we went on our Convicts, Castles and Champagne tour which the parents of Phil’s school had bought her as part of her leaving present. This was a very good boat trip, and then a walk round Goat Island and finished off with a light lunch on board and bubbly!! The tour was good, we were treated to a solo of the ukulele in an old gunpowder store which was fun.
The best thing about the day is the weather has changed for the better and the sun shone all day!
Sorry Cheryl, its the three master in the front not the enormous cruise ship behind……. and a claim to fame is being in the Onedin Line TV series.
Monday we left Sydney – we feel very fortunate that we did not get caught up in the terrorist siege. On the Sunday we had been walking round the streets where the heist took place and past the coffee shop on a few occasions. We didn’t hear about the problem until we got to Brisbane when they were saying that some flights had been cancelled. We were collected by Mick who promptly got lost on the way home!!! Those who know Mick won’t be surprised by this!!!
For the last couple of days we have been made very welcome at Mick and Veronica’s home. They have built what they call ‘The shed’ from scratch and it is amazing what they have done in the time they have been here. On Wednesday they had concrete laid for a patio out the front just in time for Christmas. This Carpet snake was curled up around the water pump round the back of the “Shed”
They are hosting us for Christmas and we are getting all ready for this – their children Sam and Abbey are getting excited about the day. We spent yesterday making Christmas decorations for the tree and keeping out of the way of the concreters.
Last night we had dinner with Greg and Colleen on the left in the photo (Mick’s brother and wife) and then went into Toowoomba to see the Christmas lights. It is all very strange thinking about Christmas when it is so hot and you are out in the evening without a jumper or coat on looking at Santa’s.
Us with Mick ,Veronica, Samuel and Abby
It’s 21.30 and 31c and feels so wrong!
