Vanderbijlpark in Johannesburg is where Dave and Su live with Bob’s mother Margaret.

Friday 5th December 2014, we left East London early on Friday morning for the long journey to Vanderbijlpark.  We arrived at about 7.30pm and visited their plot on which they have a house and a garden apartment which they are currently doing up.  We all thought it would be a good idea to have a curry – however it was a bad choice – the curry was so hot even though it should have only been a mild and the taste was not good either.  Nevermind – We are sure there will be more bad meals to come.

Sat 6th December 2014

Dave had to see the progress on their new house…

Su, Phil and Bob went to the local butchers and were amazed at the size of the packs of meat many kilo’s of different meats. After this we collected Margaret from the respite home where she was staying while Dave and Su collected us from Cape Town.

Of course because we had bought meat for a Braai there was a big storm but we moved the Braai round to the driest side of the house and carried on lovely food followed by a few games of Rummikub.

(Phil is still to win a game!!)

Sunday 7th December

A slow lazy start to the day with a full cooked brunch – yum yum.

Dave and Bob went to the plot and fitted two new windows ready for the plasterer on Monday. Phil sat in the sun reading having to retire to the shade a few times as it was HOT!

Later in the afternoon we drove around the posh area ending up at the Riverside Hotel on the Vaal River having drinks while watching boys with their toys racing jet ski’s like lunatics. A pleasant day was had by all.

Monday 9th December

The day started off overcast and we were off on a boat trip down the River Vaal.  We are going on what they call here a houseboat but what we know as a motor cruiser.  After having to lift Margaret on the boat, we set off and the sun came out.  We spent the morning oogling at houses and plots on the river bank wanting to live there. Su provided us with a lovely quiche and salad – yum.  After lunch we continued to cruise round and the black clouds followed us but it didn’t rain.  It was a great day and even nicer when Dave and Su said that it was our Christmas present – thanks to them both for a wonderful day.

Tuesday – it has rained most of the night but it seemed to have stopped by the morning.  Dave and Bob headed off to hit some balls on the golf course and the ladies headed off to Bingo!!  We had a nice time at bingo and Phil met lots of Margarets friends who were all lovely.  Phil however did not win a thing!! The other ladies faired better.  Bob and Dave were rained off the golf course by a mighty rain storm which went on and on they were soaked through the roads were flooded 50 mm in half an hour is a lot of rain!
