On Wednesday we said our fond farewells to Margaret, Dave and Su. We want to thank Dave and Su for driving for us, for sorting out our accommodations and for everything they have done for us since we arrived in South Africa we really appreciate it all.
We boarded a very full flight heading for Sydney Australia.
Phil got the lady who wanted to talk but finally she got the message after Phil got out her kindle and was determinedly reading it. The lady then started again as we were coming into land this time she took no notice that Phil was reading – we presume she was nervous about the taking off and landing or she just wanted to talk!!!
We got the train to Central and booked into our accommodation at the YHA. Yes people of our age can still use a youth hostel. The room is basic but clean. We took a walk down to the harbour for a wander about, it kept on raining but that didn’t damped our spirits.
After a good night sleep we were both up very early in anticipation of our bridge climb. The weather was overcast but at least it wasn’t raining! We took the train down to Circular Quay and walked the last bit ready for our time slot for the bridge climb. The safety procedure and getting all the equipment on takes some time but before you know it you are out on the bridge starting to climb. Phil was very nervous throughout the whole event as she is terrified of heights but it was a brilliant experience. We want to thank the parents of Southfield Park for this present given to Phil on her last day – it was amazing. At the top of the bridge we had 60k winds but the views were specular but as you can see from the video we survived them all!!
After lunch and a short nap it took off down to China Town and down to Darling Harbour. There were lots of bands playing and street performers which we enjoyed but most of all we enjoyed seeing people going out for the evening all dressed up in their finery or in fancy dress. We finished the evening off with a Chinese meal – yum.

Photo’s look great. Pleased you are both having an amazing time. We had a very excited 7 year old this morning. Thank you very much for his birthday money, I am sure he will enjoy spending it.
Off to Ben and Jerry’s tonight and a bowling party tomorrow!
Take Care
Hi Folk
You look great, best without sun glasses, the weather looks fine, staying at the YMCA sounds very posh, hope it is better than Tanners Hatch at Polesdon Lacy?
Weather here is not bad but we had heavy rain in the night but missed the Scottish high wind and sea gust at 130 mph
Await you next stage tell us the flight number so we can track you
Yes all are at Andy and Phil for Christmas, their idea
Love from C & E when she returns from Badgers Court
Hi Phil and Bob
you are so brave phil to do that bridge climb as I know what its like to have a fear of heights you wouldn’t get me doing that but what an achievement well done facing your fear. Loving the photos and blog feels like I can be part of the journey to, sending love to you both x x x
G’day mates, for best fish & chips downunder go to Doyles, Watson Bay, Sydney. An excellent way to travel to Watsons Bay or to our restaurant & take away at the Sydney Fish Markets is by Water Taxi. We recommend h20 water taxis, they have a number of different sized boats capably of carring from 1 up to 49 passengers. You can use the widget below to obtain a direct quote or you can contact them on 1300 426 829 or through their web site: http://www.h20taxis.com.au.
Enjoy and safe travel,
Y C

Really glad to hear that you’re enjoying yourselves although you’re very welcome to keep the carpet snake. We had a small slug in our porch the other day and that was quite enough!
If we don’t get a chance to catch up over the next few days we hope you have an excessive Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
Lots of love
Steve and Sarah
Ooo slugs are really scary campared to a carpet snake!!!! Hope you have a fab Christmas.
