6/5/2015 Coral Bay and Ningaloo Reef

We have had a few lazy days.  We spent two days in Coral Bay which is a seaside resort with beautiful clear blue sea and coral to look at.  We had bough snorkels and fins in Broome and we put them to good use here.  You could snorkel right from the beach which was great.  The first try saw Phil getting a little panicky as she hasn’t done much before but once we remembered what to do was much better.  We snorkelled three times while we were there.  We saw plenty of fish and coral but no turtles as yet.

We also went on a geocache hunt round the town.   We found the first one which was 100m from our caravan site which spurred us on to find more.

We found out that there was a couple off the 4wd track and headed out.  We let the tires down slightly to cope with the sand and followed the track.  Most of the track was good and we ended up on the beach.  On the return journey we hunted for the geocache.  One was meant to be at the top of a sand dune, which we had fun climbing, we decided not to take the car up there.  Unfortunately we did not find it but the view was magnificent.  The last one to find was right by the edge of the cliffs.  The navigation kept on telling us that it was 10m but in 10 m all there was was sea!!! Bob found that one too as Phil cannot do near edges!!!!  We had great fun hunting for them and they took us to places where we wouldn’t have gone.

After two days we headed up through Exmouth to the Cape Range National Park or Ningaloo Reed.  We had booked a site for 3 days in Osprey Bay.  When we go there we found a huge plot right by the sea.  Snorkelling is great along this coast and we didn’t waste any time and got into the water right by our van.  We spent the next five days – as we extended our stay when we found it was so beautiful – exploring the different beaches and different corals.  We like South Mandu the best as the coral was close and there was plenty to look at.
