23/11/14 Heathrow, Stellenbosch and Cape Town

We got to the airport nice and early and checked in OK.  Whilst we were waiting this loud alarm went off.  Nobody seemed to take any notice but it seemed to be very near to Phil.  After a while Bob mentioned that it seemed to be coming from Phil’s handbag and sure enough she had let off her personal alarm in her bag.  1st embarrassing moment of the journey for Phil!!!  I am sure there will be plenty more of them over the next few months. However she did calmly announce that she was checking how loud it was and gave a bow!

The flight was fine a bit bumpy but as we were delayed due to a wet walkway we landed late!  Thankfully though, we were met by a very nice and quiet driver who took us to our hotel. On the way from the hotel we were struck by how many little shanty houses there were. However, the further away from the airport the nicer and bigger the houses got albeit still in shanty towns.

The hotel is on a large golf course and has beautiful grounds and is also home to their very own vineyard.  We spent the next two days getting over the journey and checking out the local area and wine…

On Wednesday we went into Cape Town. We decided to go on the city Sightseeing tour.  It was a really good tour, however, when we got to the bottom of Table Mountain we found it was closed.  The weather was not really good at all, the cloud was low and was really quite chilly.

Phil found a 6 foot elephant made completely of beads and thought this could be her next project along with reusing old plastic drums!!!

We both learnt at a lot about the history of Cape Town.  We had a really good day and finished off by having a picnic in our room.
